“Our world is faced with a crisis that has never before been envisaged in its whole existence… The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking, and thus we drift towards unparalleled catastrophe.”
– Albert Einstein, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, May 1946
Awhile back I started with a Chernobyl page (a sub-tab in the ‘Nuclear’ banner at the top), but it got stalled and remains unfinished, disorganized. I will be plucking bits and pieces from various blog posts and additional sources for this quick commemorative post.
For what might have happened, I think this documentary goes into some impressive details: ! –> @ The True Battle of Chernobyl Uncensored – Documentary, highly recommended [search for it if the link changes again]. The testimony in the first 5 minutes, describing the colorful particle beam that shot up sky-high is incredible.
For me personally, Chernobyl left a deep impression. I was 11 years old, growing up in Belgium, and watched in horror as the news broke. The reason it affected me profoundly was because just two weeks earlier I had had a nightmare, the only nightmare of my childhood I still remember. In hindsight I would call it “a premonition dream”, as shared already many years ago in, (April 11, 2013), “My Humble Beginnings of Anti-Nuclear Warriorship for Mother Earth…“:
“In the dream I was sitting on a chair, descending into blue glowing water inside a huge steel-enforced concrete building. Something was melting through the Earth’s crust… I was spinning and terrified. The word ‘radioactive’ kept going through my mind… I had no idea what it meant. The water was in danger… I was overwhelmed with emotion. I didn’t know what any of it meant. This was not an ordinary dream. It shook me to the core. I woke up soaked in sweat with my heart pounding loudly, wondering, “whát ís thát, ‘radio-activity’?”
The radioactive cloud blew around the planet, but most of it settled in erratic deposition patterns in far-Northern Ukraine, parts of Russia, a major part of Belarus, and then with hot zones in various locations, from Scandinavia to Austria, even some parts of the UK.
Wind at different altitudes carried the fallout to different regions:
Where there was precipitation was the main factor for where the fallout was deposited. This maps goes an idea of where the bulk of the falout setted, at least the Cesium-137 aspect of the radioactive fallout:
!-> I shared this map as part of my fallout map comparrisons found two ground-breaking blog posts written shortly after the Fukushima-Daiichi Mega-Catastrophe began in spring 2011, with sources used back then @: See (May 19, 2011) Fukushima 2011 versus Chernobyl 1986: a fallout map comparison and (Sept 30, 2011) Extended Fukushima Fallout Maps – Sept 29 MEXT Release. Fukushima vs. Chernobyl – 2.
One of my key finding was that 1) The Japanese government chose their legend colors in such a way as that extremely contaminated areas, orange and dark orange on the Chernobyl map, appeared relatively uncontaminated (light blue): Legend comparison:
Where the gravity of the Fukushima-Daiichi Catastrophe becomes clearer is when you realize that most of Chernobyl’s fallout fell on land is as such fairly well documented; while all models about Fukushima fallout agree on one thing: Over 90% of the fallout did not fall on Japan, but blew to the east, and of what blew east, most of it was deposited in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is extremely likely that Fukushima fallout is playing a not-yet-understood role in the ongoing ecological collapse of the Northern Pacific Ocean.
From the above-mentioned blogposts: Below, the Cesium 134 + Cesium 137 combined map for Fukushima-Daiichi fallout, adjusted to Chernobyl’s Bq/m^2 legend colors, which I originally posted AS IF comparable to the above Chernobyl (Cs137 only) map. Not really comparable as such, as the Chernobyl fallout map only shows the Cs-137 deposition. Yet it still shows the severity of the contamination, and makes it overly clear that in certain area far outside Fukushima’s evacuation zone, such as parts of the cities of Fukushima, Koriyama
The cover-ups of the severity of both Chernobyl and Fukushima continues. If the full truth was known about nuclear energy, it wouldn’t be permitted. The only reason we have large nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons is because we’ve been lied to since day 1 of the Manhattan Project, out of which this mostrous industry grew.
Very early reports, later revealed under the Freedom of Information Act, revealed that government officials were fully aware of the “not one, but 5 worst case scenarios” playing out simultaniously at FDNNP. -> See some details about that @ (Dec. 2, 2014) PLUME GATE – Internal NRC Communications Released under Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) proof deliberate Cover-Up of Severity of global Fukushima Fallout in 2011. Recent SFP4 News May Have Been Part of Cover-Up

Add to that, that it took a couple years before it was admitted that estimates about the amount of Fukushima fallout, released in 2011 (so not incuding later releases), were ‘grossly underestimated’.
And add to that… that, unlike at Chernobyl where 200,000 labored 24/4 to prevent the molten corium from reaching the ground water, at Fukushima, with a surreal-corrupt bunch of TEPCO corporados and aligned mafioso in charge of disaster response… the worst case scenarios wasn’t prevented, and the coriums have been in direct contact with the ground water and have been leaching, non-stop for what is now over half a decade, some 300 tons of heavily contaminated radioactive water into the Pacifc Ocean. Perhaps it went that badly in Japan…, because top level management was more interested in keeping a lid on the suspected fact that the Fukushima nuclear complex might have included covert nuclear research, possibly including nuclear weapons research and/or breeder reactor experiments… (???) Anyhow… And add to that, that while after after the Chernobl accident, then-President of the USSR, Mikhael Gorbachov, innitiated a series of reforms that included more openess, Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, with the full backing of his CIA-installed LDP cabinet, did the very opposite and passed the State Secrecy Act… – See (Nov. 28, 2013) Orwellian Japan 2013.

Anyhow… Long diversion short: Chernobyl was bad and múch worse than pro-nuclear propagandists want to admit, but Fukushima is even worse than Chernobyl, and there’s no end in sight there yet. (See also, from way back in Sept. 5, 2013: Fukushima is most likely worse than ‘Four Chernobyls’ now. Some Data suggest Fukushima = 3000+ times Hiroshima Cesium & 20,000+ times Nagasaki Strontium)
Various influences, including large forest fires (See also Chernobyl Forest Fires in spring 2015 + several posts after that), have redrawn these maps. In addition to Cesium-134 & Cesium-137, the spead and deposition of other radioisotopes, from short-lived thyroid-cancer-causing Iodine-131, there were many other very health-hazardous radioisotopes that are often not even mentioned in mainstream media reports, such as Strontium-90, Americium-241, Plutonium, etc. As part of looking into the forest fires last year, I found some fallout maps for a few of these radioactive pollutants: (h/t http://aipri.blogspot.it/), included in http://www.rri.kyoto-u.ac.jp/NSRG/reports/kr79/kr79pdf/Gaydar.pdf. As far as the consequences…
We are currently in the midst of a massive pro-nuclear disinformation / propaganda campaign. The United Nations (IAEA, UNEP, UNSCEAR, WHO,…) have shown themselves to be a formidable force of deception when it comes to all things nuclear.
Some important resources with better information that what the nuclear crime cartel supplies, perhaps see these 3 links to get started:
- Documentary on the effects of Chernobyl on children in Belarus: https://archive.org/details/ChernobylHeart
- Health Effects of Chernobyl 25 years after the reactor catastrophe, by German Affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) @ http://www.chernobylcongress.org/fileadmin/user_upload/pdfs/chernob_report_2011_en_web.pdf (!-> at least read the first 11 pages to get a clue); as well as:

A few more links can be found under my static page Remember Chernobyl.
A video often pushed by pro-nuclear propagandists is “Wolves of Chernobyl”, which was posted on YouTube under a misleading title, “Radioactive Wolves Of Chernobyl
Scary Mutations – Full Documentary” @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLJuQQDPY8Y
-> It describes a study by two german wolf experts studying the wolf population in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. The region was turned into an agricultural zone in the 1920’s and has returned to a wilderness since the 1986 nuclear accident. WIldlife is thriving there again. Part of the study included to see how the radioactive contamination affects the local wildlife. It’s an awesome (highly recommended) documentary, but there is actually very little information on this aspect. After a half hour or so, you might even begin to wondering why the hell the region was evacuated at all, if all wildlife is thriving in such a lovely manner…. Except for this one little bit of data more than half-way through…
[@ 35 minutes in, a study of mice begins ]
Even in the area that was previously known as “the red forest’ (now green again), the overall health of the mice populations is very good now. However…The 6-year study of doormice revealed that [@ 37 minutes in): “4% to 6% of every new generation living here shows slight abnormalities, twice the rate of clean areas. For humans, this raised level of risk is unacceptable.“
And, of course, no studies were conducted in the years immediately after the disaster.
