Reykjavik Concert Hall – Trippy Cool Modern Architecture

Reykjavik, Iceland – Dec 4, 2011

Harpa in Reykjiavik, Iceland

Strolled by the harbor to check out this cool-looking building, with its shifting blue-green-purple color patterns on the outside, to find out what it actually was.

Harpa, Reykjavík’s brand-new Concert Hall and Conference Centre opened this past May (2011).

Designed by Henning Larsen Architects with acoustics by Artec Consultants Inc and a façade by Olafur Eliasson in collaboration with the architects, Harpa is to become home to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera, and thus a major addition to the Icelandic and European cultural scene.

It was one of Iceland’s most ambitious cultural projects, as well as an endeavor of great importance for the community, so I read.  This architecture site has more info and better photos in day light:  http://www.e-architect.co.uk/iceland/reykjavik_concert_congress_centre.htm

Here’s some pics I took tonite:

Truly a piece of art.
