This Blog’s Soundtrack

To get a better feel of “this side” of this particular spot in the blogosphere, I would have to pour you a glass of either organic/biodynamic French Cabernet or some Tozai (Junmai Nigori) ‘Snow Maiden’ Premium Japanese Sake (this past week), and treat you to my mini-iPod on Shuffle.  The first we’ll do in person some other day, perhaps, but of the latter this, below, is a selection of this afternoon’s iPod “random” choices (which I listened to while sipp’n coffee at one of my regular weekend hangouts).  These 25 songs offer a pretty accurate illustration of the general kind of background music many these blogposts were written on.

To convert mp4s (video) into mp3s (audio)

Listed in order of occurrence on my mini iPod on Shuffle this afternoon, with a quote (if applicable) from its lyrics.  Enjoy:

1.  Fear of the Dark, Iron Maiden, as covered by Craddle of Filth:

“…Have you run your fingers down the wall And have you felt your neck skin crawl When you’re searching for the light? …”

2. Without You, by Mariah Carrey

“…You always smile, but in your eyes your sorrow shows… Yes it shows. …”

3. Grey Spook (Westside Mix) (Track03/CD2)

4. Chakrasamvara –  by the Gyuto Monks Tantric Choir

5. Settle for Nothing – by Rage Against the Machine

“… Read my writing on the wall…  No-one’s here to catch me  when I fall   …Caught between my culture and the system…. Genocide! …”

6. Voor de Overlevenden – by Boudewijn de Groot  (in Dutch)

“… Eerst was verstand een heel nieuw spel. De poes kon ik niet meer verstaan. De school werd na een week een hel. Het paradijs is niet voor grote jongens…”

7. Concerto in D Minor for Two Violins: Adagio  – J.S Bach

8. For Whom The Bell Tolls – by Metallica

“…Gone insane from the pain that they surely know…  For whom the bell tolls… Time marches on.  For whom the bell tolls…  Take a look to the sky just before you die! It’s the last time you will!…

9.  32 Jaar (Sinds 1 dag of 2)  – by Doe Maar (in Dutch)

“… Liefde oh liefde, waar was jij toch al die tijd?… :-)”

10. Mariam  – by The Sisters of Mercy  (part English, part German)

“…Was ich kann und was ich könnte
(What I can do and what I could do)
Weiss ich gar nicht mehr
(I just don’t know anymore)
Gib mir wieder etwas Schönes
(Give me something beautiful again)
Zieh mich aus dem Meer
(Drag me out of the sea)
Ich höre dich rufen, Marian
(I hear you calling Marian)
Kannst du mich schreien hören
(Can you hear me screaming?)
Ich bin hier allein…
(I am here alone)”

11. Libera me – Intégrale de chant grégorien – Gregorian chant

12. Not Afraid – by Eminem

“…and I just can’t keep living this way
So starting today, I’m breaking out of this cage
I’m standing up, Imma face my demons
I’m manning up, Imma hold my ground
I’ve had enough, now I’m so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now…”

13. Bad Wisdom – by Suzanne Vega

“…Mother you’ve taught me the laws are so fine
If I’m good that I will be protected
I’ve fallen through the crack and there’s no getting back
And I’ll never trust whoever gets elected

Mother your eyes have gone suddenly cold
And it wasn’t what I was expecting
Once I did think that I’d find comfort there
And instead you’ve gone hard and suspecting

What price to pay
For bad wisdom..”

14.  Dream is Collapsing – by Hans Zimmer (Inception Soundtrack)

15. Working Class Hero – (John Lennon), awesome cover by Cyndi Lauper

“… When they’ve tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you’re so clever and classless and free
But you’re still peasants as far as I can see…”

16.  I can’t stand it – by The Velvet Underground

“…I live with thirteen dead cats
A purple who hear spats
They’re all livin in a hall
And I can’t stand it anymore

I can’t stand it anymore more
I can’t stand it anymore more
I can’t stand it anymore more
But if Shelly she would just come back
It’ll be allright…”

17.  Tender Situation – by Ween

“State this ache as the final break
Tender situation – create a good illusion
Feel the grip of your salvation
This is indeed a tender situation

Make a move man, state your case
Taste the waste man, taste the waste
What is your place in my glorification
Yeah, this is really a tender situation

Get off the pot man, shake and bake
Taste the waste boy, taste the waste
Pump it up or stray from that old station
Yeah dude this is really a tender situation” (all x2)

18. Cry For The Moon – by Epica

“… Follow your common sense
You cannot hide yourself
Behind a fairytale forever and ever
Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose
The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever
Forever and ever

Indoctrinated minds so very often
Contain sick thoughts
And commit most of the evil they preach against

Don’t try to convince me with messengers from God
You accuse us of sins committed by yourselves
It’s easy to condemn without looking in the mirror
Behind the scenes opens reality

Eternal silence cries out for justice
Forgiveness is not for sale
Nor is the will to forget…”

19. Pot Kettle Black  – by Tilly & the Wall

“…I bet you think we didn’t know
Didn’t even see the tides change
But it’s a small, small world, girl
Getting even smaller every day

You can fake that smile
For a hollow while
But the kids all learn
Once those bridges burn

The trash washes up to shore
Even in this landlocked place
The shit gets thicker
It’s toxic
Get it out my face…”

20. What If You Knew – by David Rovics

“…If you knew that you were living
In a huge conspiracy
Would you leave your suburbs
Get out of your SUV
Would you hit the streets
And fight for all our lives?
Would you hold your ground
When the stormtrooper arrives?
If you knew that the whole planet
Depended on what you do now
Would you take command
With the speed our times allow?
If the pundits told the truth
For just a week or two
And real life was shown on TV…
What if you knew?…”

21. Contact – by Brigitte Bardot

“…Rejoindre mon amour dans la galaxie.  …Contact…”

22. Koyaanisqatsi – by Philip Glass

23.  Diarabi  – by Ali Farka Touré & Boubacar Traoré

24.Dharmakaya Dream” – by Frank Owen & Thupten Pema Lama

25. Ghosts – by The Ettes

“…When you think I am
Who you think you’ll be
The cloudiness
To what you really see
Until you don’t know
Just what to think of me

You ask me a question
I’ll tell you a lie
‘Cause I’m no good when you start to cry
So let’s write our letters
And we’ll get out of town
‘Cause we don’t change
And we won’t change…”
